Before signing a fashion-consulting agreement, turn broad sales language into specific written obligations. These questions are designed for prospective V.Mora Consulting clients and also apply to similar product-development firms.
Scope and staffing
- Which services are included, and which require separate fees?
- Who will be the day-to-day project lead?
- Which work is performed by employees, contractors, or outside vendors?
- What happens if the assigned staff member changes?
- How often will progress updates be provided?
Tech packs and technical development
- Who supplies the base measurements and fit standards?
- Does the price include construction details, bill of materials, graded measurements, artwork placement, labels, packaging, and revision rounds?
- What file formats will be delivered?
- Who owns editable source files after payment?
- What written acceptance test determines whether a tech pack is complete?
Fabric and vendor sourcing
- Does “sourcing” mean research, introductions, sample requests, quotations, or a confirmed production order?
- Are minimum order quantities, lead times, certifications, pricing, and continuity verified?
- What happens when a preferred supplier declines the project?
- Will the client receive vendor names and communication records?
- Are commissions or referral fees disclosed?
Schedule, approvals, and changes
Ask for a milestone schedule that identifies client dependencies and outside-vendor dependencies. Define how approvals are recorded, how delays are communicated, and how additional work is priced. Verbal expectations should be transferred into the written scope.
Refunds and disputes
Request the cancellation, refund, and dispute terms before paying. Clarify whether deposits are refundable, whether unfinished work is delivered at termination, and what documentation will be provided if the relationship ends.
Keep the final proposal, contract, invoices, approvals, meeting notes, and delivered files together. For a significant commitment, have a qualified attorney review the agreement.
